- Ideal for screening drinking water samples fortotal coliform or total coliforms and E.coli
Hach's Presence/Absence broth is easy to use. Simply combine P/A broth with your sample and incubate for 24 to 48 hours at 35°C (±0.5°C). A color change from reddish purple to yellow or yellow brown indicates the presence of coliform bacteria.
To identify the specific contaminant, inoculate the tubes directly from the positive P/A broth sample and use with the brilliant green bile tubes or EC medium sold separately. Use brilliant greenbile tubes (stock # 32260) to confirm the presence of total coliforms, EC medium (stock # 32261) to confirm the presence of fecal coliforms, and EC medium with MUG (stock # 32261) to confirm the presence of E. coli bacteria.
